Hera is a supporting character in Disney's 1997 animated feature film, Hercules. She is portrayed as the powerful queen of the gods, with a serious but loving personality.
Hera first appears on Mount Olympus alongside Zeus, celebrating the birth of their son, Hercules. She voices her concerns about letting the newborn Hercules play with thunderbolts and suggests giving him a special present instead, which results in Zeus creating Pegasus.
When Hera and Zeus wake up at night hearing noises, they instantly understand that something is wrong with their baby. They run to the cod and find everything in disarray and Hercules gone. Overwhelmed with emotion, Hera cries, while Zeus yells in anger causing thunder. They join forces and send the Olympian Gods in pursuit of Hercules, but they arrive too late to return him to Olympus because he has turned mortal. Hera and Zeus watch Hercules grow up under the care of Alcmene and Amphitryon for the next eighteen years.
After Hercules becomes a hero, Hades' plan is set in motion, the Titans escape from Tartarus, which Hermes alerts Hera and Zeus about. Hercules defeats the Titans and Hades, rescues Megara's soul and regains his godhood. Hera and Zeus welcome him back home at the golden gates. Embracing her son, Hera is proud and she admires Hercules' sacrifice to save Meg. Hera and Zeus grant Hercules' wish to live on Earth with Meg, watching as he, Meg, and Phil return to Thebes, their decision met with approval by family and gods.
In "Hercules: The Series", Hera continues to watch over Hercules alongside Zeus. Despite her loving relationship with Zeus, an episode shows her becoming bitter over forgotten anniversaries. Surprisingly, Hera is less hostile towards Hades compared to other gods, even persuading Zeus to attend Hades' pool party.
Disney's portrayal of Hera is different from Greek mythology, depicting her as a caring mother rather than a stepmother who despised Heracles in the myths.
