Origin

Pegasus is a major character in Disney's 1997 animated feature film, "Hercules". He is a magic horse that was created as a present for Hercules' first birthday by his father Zeus.

Originating from Zeus' craftsmanship, Pegasus materialized from clouds as a gift for Zeus' newborn son, Hercules. However, that very night, Pain and Panic abducted Hercules. The reunion between Pegasus and Hercules transpires during the young man's visit to the Temple of Zeus as a teenager. Zeus summons a fully grown Pegasus and recounts their shared history to Hercules, describing Pegasus as "a magnificent horse with the brain of a bird". Due to that, Hercules rekindles his connection with his long-lost friend. Pegasus stays by Hercules' side throughout his adventures, meeting Philoctetes and residing on his island to help with Hercules' training as a true hero. In time, they venture to Thebes to assess Hercules' worth but encounter a mysterious woman named Megara on their path. Pegasus' initial dislike towards Megara comes from his jealousy of Hercules' fascination with her, a sentiment he openly demonstrates, particularly while in flight.

When Hades plots against Hercules, Pegasus is gets caught and tied up due to being deceived by a female horse - a disguise of Pain and Panic. Meg intervenes, convincing Pegasus to find Phil. As a result, Pegasus develops a friendlier behavior toward Megara, partnering with her to help Hercules in defeating Hades and the Titans. Following her tragic death, Pegasus lowers his head not only in sorrow but also in remorse for his earlier treatment of her. At the end, as Hercules reclaims his divine status but chooses to remain on Earth for a life with Meg, Pegasus becomes an integral part of this journey, accompanying the couple back to Thebes with the blessing of Zeus and Hera.
