Origin
Zeus is a major character in Disney's 1997 animated feature film, Hercules. He is the King of Olympian Gods, the husband of Hera, a brother of Hades and the biological father of Hercules.
In appearance, Zeus boasts orange-hued skin, a robust and muscular build, long white hair, and a flowing white beard. He has blue eyes which his son Hercules inherited as well. His attire consists of a deep purple chiton adorned with a lavender border, cinched by a circular gold brooch displaying a thundercloud emblem.
In the beginning of the film, Zeus and his spouse Hera are thrilled with the birth of their newborn, Hercules. To mark the occasion, Zeus bestows upon Hercules a special gift — a young Pegasus colt. However, when his brother Hades arrives to the party, he realizes Hercules's potential interference with his evil masterplan, so he seeks the counsel of the Fates, who foresee Hercules's role in ruining Hades's plans. Fueled by apprehension, Hades dispatches his servants, Pain and Panic, to abduct Hercules and make him drink a potion that would turn him mortal. Upon finding out about the situation, Zeus screams in anger provoking a thunderstorm.
Shortly afterwards, Zeus mobilizes the other gods in search of his son, however, it is too late as the baby has become mortal and has been taken in by a mortal couple. Zeus and Hera are forced to wait for their son to become older, and the next time Zeus appears at his Temple while Hercules is asking for advice from the gods in front of a colossal statue of Zeus when the main god himself animates it and welcomes his long-lost son. Zeus explains the necessity for Hercules to prove his heroism to regain his godly status.
Zeus's guidance is shown throughout all Hercules's adventures. However, the malevolent Hades intervenes, stripping Hercules of his might and unleashing formidable Titans, culminating in Zeus's capture and Olympus's subjugation. As Hercules reclaims his strength and defeats the Titans, Zeus is liberated alongside the other gods.
At the end of the movie, Zeus explains that true heroism is in the depth of one's heart and not just physical strength. Recognizing Hercules's enduring love for Meg, Zeus and Hera endorse his choice to remain on Earth with her. In the final musical number, Zeus creates an image of Hercules out of stars in the sky and fulfills Phil's dream.
